31 of #100daychallenge: learn yo'self
You know what?
If you really want to treat yo'self, you need to learn yo'self!
I just took the 16 Personalities assessment that my amazing friend, @joboogey recommended.
Wowza, it's so accurate. It describes all of the things that I think are socially weird about me in a way that makes me want all of my friends, family and acquaintances to read it. This excerpt really hit home, because it is something that I am aware of and feel is a weakness:
INFPs "are excellent at reading into others’ feelings and motivations, but are often unwilling to provide others the same insight into themselves – it’s as though INFPs like the idea of human contact, but not the reality of social contact."
I am not going to buy the full report or interactive courses, but I am curious to know what kind of additional insight is offered and how helpful the "academy" is to someone who wants to work on their weaknesses. If you or anyone you know does this, please share your experience!
Another assessment that has helped me learn more about myself is Gretchen Rubin's Four Tendencies work. It has been extremely helpful in understanding the way I work in relation to inner and outer expectations and why almost everything is a struggle... I am a rebel, which means I resist inner and outer expectations. It's something that I've always been aware of and had to internally navigate to get myself to do things, but it's very helpful to have a strategies, a framework and terminology to work with.
There's also something very helpful about knowing that I'm not alone. It takes some of the pressure and worry off. Knowledge is power. Awareness is key, Change or mastery is possible.
For anyone who is dating or partnered, I imagine these quizzes will be very helpful and a fun way to learn more about each other. It's so powerful to really understand and embrace the truth that we are different in the way we process and that we truly have different realities. More often than not the way we acknowledge differences is, "yes, but..." — which actually is a way of denying others and their realities. The avatars that 16 personalities created are an effective visual representation of how each one of us is complementary.
I really appreciated the parenting section in the 16 personalities assessment. Hit the nail on the head, I have the journal entries to back it up...ha! Understanding the different personality types can help parents communicate in ways that are more understanding and supportive to each child.
I could go on and on...but I must logoff.
